8 Months!

7.16.10

She's 8 months old, folks! (And yes we are weirdo parents for putting a stick-on mustache on our baby... but it was sooo cute!)

Z is getting so big and independent! But she's still my baby. =]

8 Month stuff:
-She has SIX teeth! And boy are those buggers sharp.
-She wiggles her way/rolls all over the place, but isn't crawling yet!
-She loves to stand up "by herself" (holding onto the couch, her crib, etc.) when we put her there. She sometimes will start giggling about it. =]
-She prefers to blow raspberries at people when they talk to her now.
-She can now down a 4 oz cup of YoBaby yogurt in one sitting. Impressive! =]

This is just a test...

...that includes a cute video of my kid. The hubs got a video camera for his bday, so we've been making all kinds of random videos. We need to learn to edit them. But here's one that shows what you might be doing if you spent a weekend in our family. =] Outside + sunshine + live music + cute kid + iced coffee = my kind of Saturday. =]

Boy do I have white legs...

Anyway. The video seems a lot grainier than it should be. Tips? This is what we have:
We haven't used it underwater yet, but I'm excited to do that! =]

::Goes off to figure out this grainy-ness.::

Camera Strap

I was in the mood for some sewing last night. So I did a quick, easy project with some scrap fabric. A cute camera strap cover. First I googled and looked at some tutorials, but honestly people, it's a tube of fabric. Don't make it harder than it needs to be. =P I didn't use interfacing either, it's just one layer of fabric hemmed on the ends and then folded in the half the long way and straight-stitched. Then turned inside out of course. =]

Sorry for the bad quality pics, but as you can tell, my good camera is in the pictures. ;]

Strawberry-Rhubarb Ice Cream

Mmmm. Sooo I came upon this recipe in my Taste of Home magazine and decided to try it. I however do, not own an ice cream machine, so here is a little tutorial for making it with your Kitchenaid Mixer. (Or you could use a hand mixer.)

The recipe:
  • 10 Servings
  • Prep: 45 min. + cooling Process: 20 min. + freezing

Ingredients

  • 2 cups diced fresh or frozen rhubarb, thawed
  • 1-1/4 cups sugar, divided
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons strawberry gelatin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup miniature marshmallows
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

  • In a small saucepan, bring the rhubarb, 1/2 cup sugar and water to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 10-12 minutes or until rhubarb is tender. Remove from the heat; sprinkle gelatin and cinnamon over rhubarb mixture. Let stand for 1 minute. Stir until dissolved. Cool to room temperature. Stir in marshmallows.
  • In a large saucepan, heat the milk, salt and remaining sugar to 175°. Remove from the heat; stir in cream and vanilla. Refrigerate until chilled. Pour into cylinder of ice cream freezer; process for 10 minutes or until mixture begins to thicken. Add rhubarb mixture; freeze according to manufacturer's directions.
  • When ice cream is frozen, transfer to a freezer container; freeze for 2-4 hours before serving. Yield: 5 cups.

Editor's Note: If using frozen rhubarb, measure rhubarb while still frozen, then thaw completely. Drain in a colander, but do not press liquid out.

Here's what I did:

-Prepared my ingredients. (Minus the mini-marshmallows...not my thing.)

-Here's the rhubarb, sugar, water, cinnamon and gelatin on the left, and the milk, salt, sugar, vanilla and cream on the right.
-The two combined.
- Poured into the kitchenaid bowl and placed in the freezer for about 30 minutes.
- Whipping the mixture.
-Return mixture to freezer until it starts to freeze around the edges, whip, repeat several times. (Until you achieve your desired ice creamy thickness.)
- Enjoy!
