Practice Makes Perfect

Here's what I've been working on lately. =]

I've been practicing cutting on my scrollsaw by cutting out fun little shapes such as bunnies trees and penguins. They're a little bit rough but this is just my first batch. =] They're painted with waterbased nontoxic paint, and later today I'm going to be coating them with beeswax to protect them. My ultimate goal is to get good enough so that I can make wooden earrings to sell on etsy.com. I definatly won't be selling any of these toys, because they're inspired by someone else's work. But I may continue to make and give them to the kids I love. =]

This weekend I used up some of my scrap yarn to knit a preemie hat to donate to the hospital. I have quite a bit of scrap yarn. So once I make a few hats I'll donate them. =] It's a fabulous way to use up your leftovers!! I found some really cute and EASY patterns on this blog: http://carissaknits.blogspot.com/2007/07/preemie-hats-for-charity.html

Now onto my other projects...I was browsing the red tag fabric section when I found THE CUTEST striped flannel I've ever seen. Anyway I couldn't resist buying a yard to see if I could make a receiving blanket out of it. That way if someone I know has a baby boy then I already have a gift! Wa-la! So I bought some solid light blue for the back and I just started it last night. I'll probably finish it today. =] I went back the other day and they still had it...lol...so I bought a 1/2 a yard more and 1/2 a yard of baby blue terry cloth so I can make matching burp cloths to go with the blanket. It will be a fabulous gift set! I post pictures later when I'm done!

Winter Wonderland

I was able to get some great shots this morning of yesterday's snowfall. I went out around 8am, while the sun was still coming up. It's cloudy now, so I'm glad I went out and caught those blue skies!! =]

A view looking down from our 3rd floor "porch."

Here's my feet in our driveway...this sort of gives you an idea of how much new snow we got! I didn't wear my snow pants when I went out...(or my gloves, for some idiotic reason) and it doesn't look so bad here, but it gets worse later!

This is my favorite tree.

During the summer I hang my hammock chair from the lower branch on the left and just swing there and read or enjoy the sun. =]

Another shot of my tree. =]

One of our living room windows with sooo many icicles! About this time I had decided to go back inside because my hands were sooo cold! But...I decided I'd go down to the pond and see what I could get down there.

So I trudged across the back lawn...little did I know (this is where it gets worse) that there would be deep spots that were up past my knees!! Hahaha...guess I learned my lesson...

As I got closer I was able to follow the snowmobile trail down, and if you look closely you can see the someone else did too!

Isn't this just lovely?

Faux Baby Uggs!

Here is a photo of the lovely baby booties that I FINALLY just finished for Alicia's twins, Hallee and Taylor. I started them before they were born...Nov 26...but got busy with Christmas and everything so they got stuck on the back burner. However, they are going to be a little big for them for a while and it's still very cold in Maine!!

So now my newest endeavor is to start making wooden earrings on my new scroll saw. =] =] =]

I love it. =]

I have a few designs sketched out and I've picked up some materials so after I make 5 or 10 pairs I'm planning on opening an etsy shop. But I still need a few things to get started. Right now I'm just practicing on scrap wood that Ben had.

Sooo since I haven't posted since October (eeek!) I think I feel obligated to put some footage of some good ole Maine winter fun.

Okay so it wasn't that fun...but we're having quite a storm right now! So maybe later on we'd have better luck sledding. Church is cancelled today so we'll have to find something to do to entertain ourselves. =]

We watched a sermon online from Mars Hill Church in Washington. The speaker is Mark Driscoll and it was pretty good. He spoke about generosity and compared our economy to that of the Corinthian church.

I'll try to be more diligent about keeping my blog updated! I couldn't remember my user name or password this morning, =/ but I got that figured out!

Ciao for now!
