It's Been Almost 3 Weeks

That DH has been waiting to feel a kick. Last night we were both sitting on the couch after watching a couple episodes of NCIS season 1 on DVD, just talking a little and thinking about climbing in bed. Snoop started dancing around in my ute, so I had him put his hand on my belly. Usually, when he puts his hand on my belly, she stops. Not this time! She waited a couple seconds, then she kicked him, HARD! It made me jump! =] He was like, "Is that your belly moving?" "No..." "The baby!?" Hehehe. So cute. I think that just made both of our nights. <3

Upcycling? Don't mind if I do...

So, I've been wanting to try this for awhile... and thought today was a perfect time.

One pair of extremely over-loved ae jeans...

+ One ridiculously orange, stretchy dress from Goodwill =

One pair of maternity jeans with full belly panel! =] (Sorry for the blurry pics...I had to take them in the mirror with no flash!)
The finished product is...alright. I'm not going to apply to go sew pants for Motherhood or anything, but they are fairly comfy! The bottom hemming is what's really getting me. The back heels were all ripped and frayed so I trimmed them and now in order to hem them, they seem really short to me. Maybe these will just be good with flats or flip flops. =] And I still have some of that dress leftover! So there should be more upcycling where this came from. =] Hooray!

It's a...

GIRL!!!

We are so happy and excited to be expecting a sweet little girl. =] I have to admit, my "mother's instinct" was wrong!! I really thought she was a boy! But I couldn't be happier that in a few short months we will be the proud parents of a baby girl. =]

We don't own a scanner or I would post the u/s pictures now. I tried to take a decent one of the picture with my camera, but it just wouldn't come out. So, within a couple of days I should be able to make it somewhere that I can scan these babies in and be able to share!

After the u/s DH and I headed on down to Babies r Us and started our registry. It was so much fun!! =] I'm laughing a little at myself now because all along I was like, "We need to know what we're having so we can plan!!!" Then we ended up registering for a lot of gender neutral things anyway. It will be good to be able to use them with a 2nd baby no matter what though! And I don't want to get sick of pink!

I'm so excited to be able to get some girly fabrics in my stash though! =]

I'm off to continue making our bread and I'll try to post the u/s pictures soon!!

Mitered Corners are the Bain of My Existence...(at least for today!)

I have begun sewing cloth napkins for our everyday use. And boy is it a pain in my tush! They're just so tedious, and although the mitered corners look really good, they're a pain to mess around with! I'm liking the looks of what I've made so far though.

Here is 1/2 my set in the napkin holder.

These are all folded in half, so the napkin is actually more of a square.

I still have 2 of each print left to sew, then I'm making another full set for a friend! I call these my "informal dinner napkins." Not because I actually have formal ones, I don't, but cloth napkins are usually huge. So I thought to myself, why not make smaller ones? I bought a fat quarter of each print and then just cut them all into 4 pieces. They're not exactly square, but hey, they're informal right? =]

Now for something that is a ton more interesting a fun to sew! Diapers! I watched this video. ---->

The video is helpful and makes the diaper seem super easy. So I decided to try it.

The pattern is free, http://handmadebyrita.blogspot.com/2007/10/classic-rrp-ritas-rump-pocket-pattern.html It's for a one-size pocket diaper made with 2 layers of flannel and some elastic. You need to stuff the pocket with something absorbant. (Tri-folded prefold, microfiber, hemp, washcloth, etc.) You can pin, snappi, or use a snug cover. A cover is required to waterproof. I'll probably use my thirsties cover or a wool soaker.

Here are my first 3!

Waiting Patiently...

So. I am currently stalking the USPS Track & Confirm page. And I'm quite certain that my 2 new diapers will be down the road from me in about 43 minutes. But who's counting? =]

Also. If you're reading this, then look to your right... and vote! I want to know what my readers think I'm having before Monday, when we get to find out! It should be a fun time.

Birthdays!

Yesterday afternoon I realized that our nephew's birthday is tomorrow and we didn't have a present for him. Now keeping in my tradition of making gifts, I was able to make him this colored pencil roll completely from scraps from my fabric stash. Fabulous!

All rolled up and ready for travel. =]
Ready to use! Of course we bought him colored pencils to go with it and a doodle pad!
Andddd... today we're 18 weeks! I had a trim today, and during the shampoo, babe was kicking away! Evidentally he or she enjoys the shampoo as much as I do. =]

Here's the belly pic! I have a posed one, but I like this one Ben took when I wasn't looking better. It's more natural. I guess posing with emphasis on your stomach is weird other than at times like this! =]

::Screams::

Last night I had a dream that I had given birth to 5 babies. It was the middle of the night, and they were co-sleeping in our bed (which I'm not even planning on doing), and they were all screaming to be changed! And I only have 1 owl diaper! Hahaha. So I used some socks. Weeeeeird. =P

Ring Sling!

This evening I finished my ring sling! This is me, wearing our 5 lb bag of sugar baby. =] The sling seems alright, DH and I both tried it, however, the rings seem awfully small, which in turn causes there to be a lot of struggle when adjusting the fabric. Hmmm... There's always the option of purchasing the next size ring up and taking apart my sling. So we'll see.

On an equally cute note, today I received my first fluffy mail! (For those of you who don't know, "Fluffy mail" is always cloth diaper related. =]) I had ordered this super cute fitted diaper from a seller on hyena cart.

This is a fitted diaper, so it still requires a cover, because it doesn't have a waterproof layer. I'm a little sad that the cute owls will have to be covered up!

Here's the inside.

The seller (http://www.hyenacart.com/simplyposh) also threw in a free snap in OBV (organic bamboo velour) doubler! Score. It is suuuuuper soft. I can't wait to try this diaper out on my baby!

Movement!

At exactly 17 weeks I felt the baby move from the outside! =] He/she kicked my hand twice! It's such a wonderfully amazing feeling. I can't wait for Ben to get kicked. ;]

Longies!

Here's a picture of my longies! I am so in love with them, and I can't wait to see a sweet little babe in them!! =]

Anniversary Getaway!

I decided to do a second post for our trip this weekend. It will be a heck of a lot shorter I assure you. =]
Silly reach and click shot.

Awesome picture the hubs took from atop Cadillac Mountain. That's fog encircling the island.

This was at the lookout for Thunder Hole, in Acadia National Park.
The view from our balcony, at the lovely Bar Harbor Regency.

We had a fun weekend. Now that I'm looking at the pictures, I wish I'd taken more!! I guess that just means we'll have to go back again sometime. ;]

One Year

So we've been married for a year. People always say the first year is the hardest. I loved it. =] A year ago at this time we were on a plane on our way to Cancun, Mexico. Ahhh. I would looooove to be on my way to Cancun right now. Anyway. Here's a picture from our wedding.
It was a dreary, rainy day. I didn't care, because I was getting married to the love of my life. I was at the church getting ready basically all day, so I missed the hard rain. Some of our guests walked in soaking wet though. =[

Yesterday afternoon's weather actually reminded me some of the weather we had that day. I wonder if it will rain every year on May 31st? =P Let's hope not.

Last night we ate a few bites of our cake top. It held up surprisingly well. Like I figured it was going to disgusting. But it really wasn't! There were a few areas of freezer burn I guess, but other that that it was actually very moist. =]

Towel swans they put on our bed. Hehe.

We have very few pictures of us together on our honeymoon, because well, we were alone! Lol. Unless you count those ones where you hold the camera out infront of you and click, I have a few of those. The picture above was taken on a little day trip we took to a small island off the coast of Cancun. It was about a 30 minute ride on a mini cruise ship, then we spent the day exploring the park.

We spent a little while relaxing in the hammock garden overlooking the beautiful ocean. This was about the time Ben was trying to convince me that we had to go back to make sure we didn't miss this ship back. Party pooper.

The panoramic pool that I was in love with. =]Zip line!!
